Of course it will hurt it, on a 2 stroke the oil in the gas is the only lubrication the engine receives, without lubrication the engine will be ruined. A 4 stroke car engine will seize in 10-13 seconds without oil, 2 stroke engine may last a bit longer but its not very long, the only chance you have is if there was some residual gas with oil before the unmixed gas was added.

It will hurt it. If he ran it for a period of time then you can kiss it good bye because he would have burned it up.

There is no try. There is only do, or do not.

    Yoda.

A few minutes probably wouldn’t hurt anything, but extended running without oil will score the cylinder walls and likely overheat the engine. Not sure what will fail first, but rest assured the life of the engine will be extremely short.

Never heard of a 2 stroke snowblower. Most of them use 4 stroke, more torque. However, as little as 50 revolutions ( 10 – 15 seconds) is enough to burn a piston or score the cylinder. You might want to have a compression test done.

the 2-cycle is the lubricating oil for that motor — it’s like draining the oil from your car then starting the engine.
