I ve had good luck w/ my Craftsman . If you need one for small general use, a 2 cycle 1 stage may soot your needs. 22/24" are easy to handle , light weight and start easy. Some come w/ and elctric plug in for electric start. Now if you have a larger drive a 30/36 " 11/12 hp 2 stage( 4 stroke) is more what you need. These are self propelled and made for bigger drives and or hilly areas. A bit bulkier , but a gal can handle them if need be.GL

For that price range you can easily get a nice two stage machine. The difference is a single stage has a ‘flapper’ that spins at a very high speed and throws snow. This is ok for snow an inch or two deep.
A two stage machine has an auger that spins a couple hundred rpm, but feeds the snow into the ‘second stage’ to shoot it much further. A two stage blower usually has 180 degree direction and you can shoot deep snow twenty or more feet–less if necessary by adjusting the chute. They are very easy to use and you’ll appreciate it during your next blizzard. Your neighbor with the single stage will be knocking at your door as his will be useless at a time like that.
I would suggest at least a 24 inch (width) self-propelled w/reverse. I have a 26" Sears Craftsman with 110 volt electric start. I generally plug it in the first time I use it each day. After that, the pull rope does a nice job.

There are a lot of top brands on the market, like john deere and toro.
I have bought a John Deere. Which is the best for you? depends completely on your needs and requirements. For that price you can buy a really good snow blower.
I suggest you take a look at this website: http://www.snow-blower-guide.com

They also helped me choosing the right snow blower
