Our snowblower stopped working?

It made a small POP noise, now it won't start. Anyone have any ideas?
It's a 26" MTD, about 10 years old. It's had pretty heavy usage.

My hubby is a good fixer, but he's not too good with small engines...

See if the spark plug is still attach. If so, pull plug, put finger in hole and pull the start rope. If it spins freely, major repair is in order. If you have compression, not all is lost. Put a couple of drops of gas in plug hole. Put plug back in motor. Try to start. If it start and runs a second or two, Your motor isn’t getting any fuel. Need to clean carbutator. Remember, you need three thing for a gas motor to run. Fuel, spark and compression.

check the oil if its out so is the engine,
or the plug could have shorted out [separated]
replace the plug attach the plug wire hold the plug base to the engine turn it over if you get spark your good to go,

Doesn’t sound good, I can’t tell ya what went wrong without a lot more info but I would bet the motor’s shot.
