Most likely on something that olde you have one of three problems or a combination of all.
-Bad bearing on the transfer shaft
-Broken/streched drive belt
-Keeper key has sheared off not allowing the drive system to couple with the auger. If you hit something like a big chunk of ice this would be where to start (less than $3.00 at a local store usually)
sounds like you have an engagement arm or tension broken.
Worn bearing,or bearing holder worn. Blower gearbox should not move at all.
