I need to buy a snow blower, new or used. What am I looking for, besides that it works!?
I know that it should blow snow...but does the horse power matter? How about anything a female may need to know BEFORE she buys one! Be gentle...I have never had to even use one let alone purchase one! This could be a very interesting winter season for me.

Buy from a store that sells lawn mowers and snow blowers
only, because they will have the parts to repair/service them
when they break down. The most important thing to
remember is to use all the gas up before storing it, when
your done using it for the winter. Do the same for your lawn-
mower at the end of summer. And "read Instructions" <}:-})
Horse power will matter. If you have wet snow in your area, get one with more power. A rotating outlet for the snow is important too. I don't think any modern blowers have fixed outlets, but don't get one that does. It means you can only blow snow in one direction and you have to pay a lot more attention to how to go through your path to remove snow.
Get something with wheels if you have any significant amount of snowfall.
I think first you should give consideration to what type of snow and how much snow you typically get in your area. There are many different types of snow and you will need to purchase a machine that will work well where you live. Cub Cadet and Huskee Supreme lines are quite good and range from heavy duty to light duty depending on your needs. I would suggest finding a retailer for these products near you. They typically know which machines you will want to look at for your area. They have good customer service and will take the time with you to set you up with the machine that will best work for you. These machines also carry 2 year warranties on both the machines and the engines, which is one of the things you should always consider when purchasing any machine. I would recommend looking at new machines and weighing pricing, warranty and customer service against used machines.
If I understand your question you are looking for ease of operation correct?
Buy one with an electric start just plug it in and press a button saves on al that rope pulling
One with a directional chute is helpful you can direct the snow where you want it
And last but not least get self propelled so you are not pushing it it even has reverse so you can back up
I hope this helps
