How do I fix my Snow Blower…?
The larger "blades" that collect the snow refuse to turn! Are these machines that complicated or can a lay person attempt to repair?

I'm a small engine repair shop. 1) see if the sheer pins are broken. They are like a bolt and nut that might run the auger blades. 2) If sheer pins are in tact check belt or chain. Some have belts and some are chain driven. If belt see if it came off pulley. If off pulley reline up belt and install. Check tension on pulley to see if it keeps belt on. If tension pulley is broken you will start to need more parts. If chain check chain if off reline up chain with sprocket. Find out if sprocket is missing teeth . The teeth are like gears or triangles pointing out. If teeth are missing replace gear spiked so chain doesn't fall off again. Replacing maintenance parts are easy. But when getting into deeper problems you might see a mechanic.
I Do Not Know?
Buy a shovel
The blades are gear or belt/chain driven. If you are mechanically inclined, take the thing apart. The cause of the jammed blades should be evident. You really have nothing to lose if it is not working anyway.
did you break the belt? are the retaining cups too tight? maybe you should move to the bible belt, then you will not need one.
Most likely a belt. If you want to send me the name and model of the thing I can find out and let you know. Most belts on homeowner models are fairly easy to change.
Did you break your shear pins, if you can turn those blades by hand easy then that's your problem
