BLUE SMOKE comes out of my lawn mower and snow blower!! WHY?
what am i doing wrong?
sometimes blue smoke comes out of my lawn mower and the snow blower, i dont know why
i want to use the snow blower tomorrow because there is a big storm, but i started it up today to see if it works but blue smoke is coming out of it so i shut it off
Blue smoke is indicative of the engine burning oil. If it’s a two stroke engine then burning a bit blue would be normal as the gas is mixed with oil. If it is a four stroke engine then you have a problem with the engine sucking oil, probably from worn rings.
It sounds like gelling. When gas sits for a long time the part of it evaporates leaving all the other stuff. When you finally use the gas it has a larger amount of the other stuff in it. If left for a really long time this can gum up the engine, but since it ran I’d say your Ok. Just take the gas left over in it and get it out then pour some fresh in. When you start it it will smoke for a little while but it will go away in 10 to 15 minutes.
CHANGE THE OIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bad rings? Try a thicker oil.
Two additional things to the above answers, Two stroke engine fuel will make blue smoke if it is used in a four stroke engine. The oil sump has too much oil in it.
Blue smoke indicates the engine is burning a gas/oil mixture. If you do not mix the oil and gas, you could have a bad oil ring in the engine. If you do mix the oil nd gas, you may have added too much oil. If this is the case, no problem. If you do not mix the oil and gas, you have a problem. It won’t be a big one, just bothersome. Like when you see car going down the road leaving a trail of blue smoke. Bad oil rings.
If it clears up in a minute or so it is pretty normal When you shut the engine off when it is hot a small amount of oil can enter the cylinder through the valve guides. If the engine runs ok and the oil level is correct it is most likely just fine.
