4 cycle engine oil vs. normal 10w30?
I have a Yard machine snow blower with a tecumseh 4 cycle engine...has the dipstick, etc.
Rather than trying to find a store that has 4-cycle engine oil, i am wondering if i can use the valvoline 10w 30 i have in my garage?

a 4 cycle engine is an engine you would find in most of todays automobiles.
Basically YES, but make sure you use the same weight or something close. ie 10w-30 or 10w-40. For the most part they all would work in a pinch with no problems to your engine.
regular car oil is 4 cycle oil
You should really check with the owners manual or a local
outdoor power equipment supplier.
I don’t think you should be using a multi-weight oil for this unit.
As others have already said, regular automotive 10W-30 is fine to use in a lawnmower in the summer but NOT in a Tecumseh 4 cycle snow blower application. We have a Husquarvarna, Toro and an old Agway snowblower and in each instance they all have Tecumseh 8 horse 4 cycle motors. I have the paperwork for each motor and they all call for 5W-30 for temperatures under 32 Farenheight and straight 30 weight for temperatures above 32 degrees.
This is a great application for full synthetic 5W-30 as the motor will start easier as the temperature drops, particularly if you don’t happen to have an electric starter.
